VAN NUYS Ñ The directory at the entrance to the business complex. Unit 8, Ultima DVD was the location of the attacks. Police say a porn actor killed one colleague and injured two others with a prop weapon during a late night showdown at the Van Nuys studio where they all worked.
Police Detective Joel Price says the alleged attacker had been living at the adult entertainment business for several months but his colleagues told him he had to make other arrangements by Wednesday.
Price says Steven Hill attacked a colleague in the back of the building after work Tuesday with a machete-like weapon. Price says two others who heard the man's screams ran to help him and were also attacked before Hill fled the scene.
One of two people who tried to help died in surgery at a local hospital. The others are expected to survive.
The victims' names have not been released.
The assault at or near Hayvenhurst Avenue and Saticoy Street was reported about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday. Hill, described as a roughly 6-foot-tall man in his 30s, may have fled in a 1996 blue Toyota RAV with license 5YTC423, a Los Angeles police officer at the West Valley station said.
The stabbings occurred at Ultima DVD Inc., which through its Ultima Entertainment division distributes pornography on the Internet and on DVD.
According to the company's website www.ultimaentertainment.com, it specializes in "adult fetish footage" that include scenes of "... groin kicking ... female domination ... humiliation" and other sexual activities of a violent nature. (Dean Musgrove/Staff Photographer)
