The 22nd Annual La Gran Limpieza: The Great Los Angeles River
Cleanup on April 30, 2011. Volunteers joined Friends of the LA
River (FoLAR), Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and other prominent
community members participated in the largest LA river cleanup in
city history. The FoLAR event had 14 cleanup locations
throughout the county and the mayorÕs event featured over thirty
activities within city limits.
This year, along with the MayorÕs initiative, FoLAR expects more than
5,000 participants to pull 25 tons of garbage from the River. 500 community members participated at the river at Lake Balboa. Hugo Hernandez and his son Benjamin, 10, from North Hills, helped clear trash from the river. Dean Musgrove/Staff Photographer.
