A large image of Marilyn Monroe, titled Marilyn vs Brigitte Bardot, by Alex Guofeng Caomade, made up of smaller images of Brigitte Bardot is seen at the opening reception of the 20th annual photo l.a. show held at the Santa Monica Civic Center in Santa Monica, CA January 13, 2011. The show featuring galleries from around the world showing photography runs Friday, January 14 through Monday, January 17th and is open from 11 a.m to 7 p.m daily.
Celebrating its 20th Anniversary and status as the longest running art fair west of New York, photo l.a. brings together photography galleries from around the globe, displaying excellent examples of contemporary photography, video and photo-based installations along with masterworks from the 19th century to over 10,000 attendees.
This year, photo l.a. also joins with artLA projects, an ongoing citywide program of dynamic and innovative installations, exhibitions, seminars and conversations with established and cutting-edge artists in all media. Both photo l.a. and artLA projects play a significant role in the cultural life of Los Angeles by increasing public awareness and acceptance of photo-based and contemporary art.
