A red full moon is seen through the haze as it rises from the east Saturday as it's bigger and brighter and closest approach to Earth in 18 years.
Scientists estimate the "supermoon" rising in the east at sunset will appear 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter at its peak.
On Saturday, the moon will be 221,565 miles away Ñ the closest to Earth since March 1993. Palmdale CA. March 19,2011. Photo by Gene Blevins/LA Daily New
