LONG BEACH - 09/13/2011 - (Staff Photo/Scott Varley) Volunteers, Habitat for Humanity staff join homeowner Martha Partida as they build her new home on Henderson Avenue Tuesday in Long Beach. Habitat for Humanity along with Merck is building four home nationwide as part of their Build Smart, Breathe Easier asthma education program. Two of Martha Partida's four children suffer from asthma and the home that is being built will be built with materials to reduce dust, allergens and other things that make breathing more difficult. The home will have solid surface floors instead of carpet, use paint without VOC's and will have an air conditioner. Habitat is also building three other standard homes in the Partida's neighborhood.
David Partida, 19, who will live in the home with his mother, brother and two sisters, helps with the construction.
