12/11/08: Jack Ward, right, of Long Beach with his wife, Mary, ride the Pine Ave. Restaurant Row trolly to view 20,000 brightly colored lights illuminating prominent buildings throughout downtown after the City of Long Beach debuts them during a ceremony in front of the Terrace Theater on Thursday, December 11, 2008. Many fixtures are being used with cutting-edge LED technology (Light Emitting Diode), with approximately 9,000 lights (at 50 watts each, compared to 100 watts) and aims to bring buildings to life while encouraging pedestrian traffic to notable downtown locations. Each light fixture is navigated by a light control system that will produce a colorful spectrum of more than 16 million different colors.
